How to Do Well

I want everyone in this class to make an "A"! You can reach that goal through strong effort. If you follow instructions, come to class every day, turn in work on time, and give serious effort to your work (including watching the films and reading the assigned comics), you will make an "A." If you are the sort of student who cares about learning, all you have to do is work hard and cultivate a positive attitude about film and comic interpretation.

Succeeding in this course depends on a mindset that elevates good work and serious commitment over earning a grade. Mindset means everything!

Here are some mindsets that will help you:
  1. "This film raises questions that can help me think about my goals in life."
  2. "I enjoy talking with my classmates about their insights."
  3. "The assignments in this class are challenging, but I like a challenge."
  4. "Hopefully, I can leave this course a better film viewer."
  5. "I plan to see Dr. H in his office tomorrow for help on this assignment."

Attitude and mindset are difference makers! The films we watch in this course are carefully chosen to challenge your expectations of movies and why we watch them. The comics might be unfamiliar to you simply because they are comics, but reading comics is great way to think about what happens in our brains when we watch movies! I hope you will immerse yourself in the films we watch and the comics we read so that you become more self-aware and grow as a consumer of art.
