Discussion Notes

In order to show that you are participating, you have to take organized discussion notes during our class meetings. You should fill enough notebook paper to account for all things said and discussed during the period. I know you can't catch EVERY little thing, but you can catch most, and you should be writing all period. Your engagement and attention must not lapse. Remember, this is for participation credit. You can write down ideas I say, ideas your classmates say, ideas you are thinking to yourself about the discussion, etc. Your notes will count if they are detailed and full, you turn them in to me after each class, and you frequently speak your mind about the film or comic under discussion and openly respond to the ideas of your classmates during class.

Discussion Notes

Conditions:
  • You must give me these notes at the end of each classroom meeting.
  • Your notes should reflect that you took notes all period, not stopping when you "have enough." Credit will be earned only if your discussion notes show a serious effort to be attentive and active for the entire class period.
  • Balance your note-taking with active and vocal participation in discussion. If you do not frequently speak up during class, I will not give you participation credit.
  • Your notes should be your observations from the start to the end of your time in the classroom.
Content:
  • Start a new set of notes for each day, and put the date of the class at the top.
  • Write down all topics that come up in class.
  • Write down questions raised during class and the various responses people make.
  • Write down ideas that come to you about the films during our discussion.
